Pride and Prejudice Week.

For the next week I have decided to have some discussions about Pride and Prejudice and everything involved around it. I am currently awaiting the arrival at Barnes and Nobles of the new graphic novel version of Pride and Prejudice that was developed by Marvel Comics. I am extremely curious. They did not carry it and so I had to special order it in.
It has also come to my attention that there are other strange variations of Pride and Prejudice that have recently come out. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one that I am curious about. Not that I would normally be into zombies, however if it is done right it may work. Let me know if any of you have heard or seen anything about these books. If there is anything else that I may have missed with other new Pride and Prejudice books please let me know. I love to stay on top of these things, but it is impossible to know everything.
Alot of classics have been recently turned into graphic novels by Marvel Comics. Look into it, they may be something you find fun. This may bring in a whole new group of consumers to the comic book industry than typically follows them. Happy Reading!

  1. i've seen several different pride and prejudice movies and there are actually three that i like:
the A&E (BBC) "pride and prejudice"
"pride and prejudice: a latter-day comedy"
    "bride and prejudice"

while the bbc version is really long, it's the closest thing to reading the book that i've seen. i love it! i wish the budget could have been larger so the film quality, costuming, etc could have been better, but i'm sure at the time they drew up the budget they'd have no idea how successful and iconic it would become.
"pride and prejudice: a latter-day comedy" is a cute (although at times over the top comedy, especially where mary, kitty and lydia are concerned) LDS adaptation. i love the actors in it! i haven't really seen them in much else (that i can recall) though...the actress who plays lizzy was in "the prince and me 2 &3" though.
"bride and prejudice" is a bollywood musical adaptation. a lot of the numbers are pretty cheesy but there are a few songs i enjoyed. once again, i LOVE the cast of this film! there's a funny cameo by alexis bledel (rory from "gilmore girls") that cracks me up...she just seems out of place. but i love the actors that play lizzy and darcy! this movie really makes you want to hop a flight to india because everything it presents about the country/culture is gorgeous!!

  2. I guess I must be too picky. I saw both the two latter movies and felt I was good after that. I watched them and never needed to be curious anymore. I think the Indian musical thing was a bit much for me, I think I like my P&P stuff more classical. Although I am a big fan of Bridget Jones's Diary movies. I'm sure it helps that Colin Firth is included in them. Other than the long BBC version and the recent version of P&P those would be my favorite adaptations. I'm sure it helps that I live with a Mr. Darcy. Anyone who knows my husband knows exactly what I mean. He is looked at one way until you get to know him, and then everyone finds out that he is different than they first assumed. I think he is more social though. I love being able to say though that I married a Mr. Darcy!

  3. you know, i've never seen the bridget jone's diary movies...any movie w/ collin firth has a thumbs up vote before it's even watched. :)
i tried not to compare the non-bbc pride and prejudices to the original story, i thought thy were just fun on their own, although at times i couldn't help but compare them. you know, bride and prejudice is another one of those movies that just weirded me out at first but a few days later i felt like watching it again....now i own it.

haha! he's totally a mr. darcy! although, instead of him being snooty, i was scared to death of him at first...he's really imposing :)

has anyone read those pride and prejudice zombie books? those look just weird and wrong to me but apparently they're really popular...wonder why.

i heard something about bbc remaking pride and prejudice w/ the same script i think...does anyone have more info?
