"A Promise to Believe in" The brides of Gallatin County-book one, by, Tracie Peterson

Again I am amazed by the writing abilities of Tracie Peterson and am completely addicted to her historical adventure romance book series. This new series: The brides of Gallatin County is just as captivating as the last series. I have just now finished book number one and will immediately be starting to read the second book, (thank you honey for buying the second one for me ahead of time by the way.) The Gallatin sisters are in the wake of a terrible sudden accident that has left their father (only living parent) shot and dead. They now have to come to terms with how to run a roadhouse in the wilds of Montana territory on their own. With plenty of challenges that come their way from the neighboring saloon and it's owner this will prove to be quite a large trial. Through it all though they look to their religious faith to get them through to happier times. I give this book YES ANOTHER FULL 10!!!!! Tracie Peterson does not fail to produce masterpieces and will be in my blog for the forseeable future. "Mornings Refrain" by Tracie Peterson

Another hit! I loved this second book from the Song of Alaska series! The main character of this book was a baby in the first installment of the series. Grown up to be an amazing man, you follow Dalton Lindquist through an adventure of realization. He finds out what his past was all about and why it was hidden from him for so long while living in the very small community of Sitka, Alaska. He however ends up falling for an amazing woman and almost loses his childhood best friend in the process. What an adventure! I give this book another full 10! "Dawn's Prelude" by Tracie Peterson

This is another one of those books that I randomly picked in the new fiction display of the library. I usually go off of the picture and description, which seems as of lately to be serving me quite well.

Dawn’s Prelude is an amazing mystery and love story all together. It is suspenseful and very hard to put down. I find these days that with the new romance books it is impossible to find one to read that does not have situations arise in it that I would deem unnecessary. This book did not have that problem. The story is set in Kansas City in the year 1870. The main character is a woman named Lydia Gray who has just been widowed. Her husband was a very cruel man, and her step-children all but the youngest (Evie) are also very mean and underhanded and have never accepted her as part of her family.

When her father and husband both die in the same carriage accident it leaves her situation with their wills very peculiar and makes her a target by her step-children who will stop at nothing to regain control over everything. She escapes them, only to be found later on with the risk of losing her life and others she now knows and cares about deeply.

Right down to the end Tracie Peterson keeps you hanging on to every word and wondering what could possibly happen next. This is a book that I will soon own, it has no bad language and no inappropriate sexual content. The historical information is accurate and very enjoyable. I have already been reading the next book in the series that starts out with a secondary character from this book as the main character. I am hooked! Luckily Tracie Peterson has written more than 80 books. Finally an author I enjoy completely and has numerous other books that I can read.

I give this book a full 10! It is a definite need to read book. I should finish reading the next one shortly also. "The Snows" by Sharelle Byars Moranville

Yesterday I finished reading the young adult book "The Snows" by Sharelle Byars Moranville. It was a very interesting book. The story takes place in four different times, and with four different characters all written in the first person. It starts off in 1931 with a young teenage boy named Jim, then skips to his sister Cathy in 1942, from there it goes to Jill in 1969, and then finally to Mona in 2006. It illustrates very well in each time the happenings of that particular period of time and how the family went through all of it. Every main character is related to the others in one way or another. The way it is written keeps you guessing and wanting for more. I enjoyed this book very much. There was only one downfall to it that would make it so that I could not keep it in my house. About three quarters of the way through the book in the 1969 portion due to the fact that they were involved in some anti-war demonstrations about Vietnam the F word did appear about five times. "Me. the Missing, and the Dead" by Jenny Valentine

This was a very interesting book. The plot was something that I did not expect. It was written from the point of view of an older teenage boy in Britain. He is living with the disappearance of his father years back. He stumbles upon the ashes of an old lady at a cab company and figures out a way to take them home with him after the lady starts to speak with him from the other side. After reading more and more into the book the pieces start to fall together as to why this dead old lady picked him to speak to. In the process he finds out more about his absent father than he expected. He also ends up finding more respect for his mother in the process. I enjoyed the plot and reading this book, but would probably would not have it in my collection. I give this book a 7 on my book scale. "Listening for Lions" by Gloria Whelan is a hit!!!!!

I absolutely loved this book. This was yet another one that I just picked up randomly in the young adult reading section of the library. Sometimes that's where I find the books that I love the most!

'Listening for Lions' is about a girl named Rachel who has grown up in Africa with her parents who run a small hospital in a very small African village. Her parents end up dying due to disease and she becomes caught up in a local wealthy families plot to use her as their victim to get more money from the grandfather of their recently passed daughter who is her own same age.

Will she escape their greedy hands and fall into more capable ones? And will she ever be able to get back the life in Africa that she grows sadder every day to have lost? This is a very charming book, especially for young girls. It is one that I would add to my collection. Hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!

"Girlwood" by Claire Dean

Love this book so far! I am about 2/3 done with the book and could not stop if I tried. It is about a pre-teen girl named Polly who's sister Bree has turned into a drug-addicted teen. They no longer have a good relationship due to this. Her older sister one night comes to her room in the middle of the night to tell her that she is going away to the forest until she can get everything to rights again. She almost thinks that this is a dream until her sister is missing from her room the next morning.

Between her missing sister, divorced parents, and her grandmother living in the woods (whom everyone in town is convinced she is a witch) she has her hands full. Oh, and did I mention that this little girl also has the power to see people's auras in the form of colors surrounding them. Even after her sister has still been missing for weeks she still believes that she is in the woods living on the land. The narrator takes you on a mystical and fun-filled journey with a group of girls to discover the truth about the whereabouts of Bree.

"The short second life of Bree Tanner" by Stephenie Meyer

This book has just recently been announced to be out soon. It is about the short life of Bree Tanner who is one of Victoria's newborns that came to defeat the Cullen's in Stephenie Meyer's third book of the Twilight trilogy Eclipse. "The Red Shoe" by Ursula Dubosarsky

This book was interesting but I would not read it again. It's a story about a little girl named Matilda and her two sisters. It is set in Australia in the mid 1950's during a very trying time in their country and their families life. Numerous bad and depressing things happen to their family and those surrounding them. It is definitely not uplifting. On my book scale I would give this one only a 3. Time to move onto the next one! Reading for pleasure again!!!!

Hey everyone!!!
Now that I will be taking a break from school, I will have more time again for some reading. I will start posting stuff again thank goodness. I missed posting so much!!!! I am currently halfway through a book called "Eve and the Garden of Eden". I should finish it by the end of the week or next week depending on how much other stuff I plan to get done around the house. Pride and Prejudice Week cont.

Unfortunately since school started I have realized that I will be unable to post as much as I would like. Pride and Prejudice Week.

For the next week I have decided to have some discussions about Pride and Prejudice and everything involved around it. I am currently awaiting the arrival at Barnes and Nobles of the new graphic novel version of Pride and Prejudice that was developed by Marvel Comics. I am extremely curious. They did not carry it and so I had to special order it in.
It has also come to my attention that there are other strange variations of Pride and Prejudice that have recently come out. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one that I am curious about. Not that I would normally be into zombies, however if it is done right it may work. Let me know if any of you have heard or seen anything about these books. If there is anything else that I may have missed with other new Pride and Prejudice books please let me know. I love to stay on top of these things, but it is impossible to know everything.
Alot of classics have been recently turned into graphic novels by Marvel Comics. Look into it, they may be something you find fun. This may bring in a whole new group of consumers to the comic book industry than typically follows them. Happy Reading!

The Hunger Games book three!!!!

I have just found out that the third book of The Hunger Games series will be released on August 24, 2010!!!! Can't wait!!!! So, everyone who hasn't read the series yet has eight long months to read the first two of the series before the next one comes out. That should be more than enough time. If you have a hard time getting through a book sometimes I have a suggestion to make it more fun. One thing I LOVE to do is read the book along with listening to it on tape at the same time. I do that for books I need to read for school and I get more into them that way. Eight long months to go!! UGH!!! Happy reading!!!

City of Bones Trilogy

I have been asked by a reader of the blog about the City of Bones:Mortal Instruments Trilogy. I have looked it up and found that it is classified as a young adult urban fantasy book. It is definitely up there for older readers also though. It has numerous mythological creatures in it and no shortage of action. If you are looking into reading the Mortal Instruments trilogy I would strongly recommend it. City of Bones is the first one of the series. I don't read series books unless I really enjoy them, thus I am very picky. Please everyone let me know if you have anymore questions about the books on the list. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Hope that everyone is having a good New Years Day. I am enjoying our last few days of freedom before the grind of college classes start again. I may end up writing about Shakespeare since that will be one of my new classes.
I have decided that my favorite book that I read during 2009 was 'Catching Fire'. It is the second book in 'The Hunger Games' series. I am patiently awaiting the third installment of this series. (Impatiently is more like it actually, having a hard time concentrating on other books.) Enough of being impatient. The Hunger Games series is about a girl who lives with her mother and brother on the outskirts of a small village. The world is completely different for her. She volunteers for something called the Hunger Games after her younger sister is picked. She goes in her place. There is romance,(young romance), action adventure, and you never know what is going to happen next. It's a book that keeps you guessing, which I love. You can only read so many books that are predictable. As if we don't have enough adventure in everyday life. I like other stay at home mothers and fathers likewise sometimes crave a different sort of adventure, the kind that I will never see in my lifetime. I truly felt as though I was living through this character, and was shocked and terrified at every dangerous and treacherous turn that came about during the everyday struggle that was The Hunger Games. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would strongly recommend it to anyone male or female any age. Check it out, and you may finish both of them in time for the release of the third book.
